I just had a conversation with my friend and former colleague Rickard (@VirUZI) where he informed me that a hotfix has been released for EPiServer Community that fixes a bug we’ve both run into. I said thanks but also that I already knew thanks to Twitter. Rickard then asked me if I had any tips about people at EPiServer to follow on Twitter. I compiled a list of the people at EPi that I follow. I also gave him a list of other people I thought he should follow.

  2. Really simple IoC with ASP.NET MVC and StructureMap

    Posted August 16 2009. 0 comments. I recently began working on the new version of this blog which will be built with ASP.NET MVC, EPiServer Community and EPiServer CMS. One of the first things I set out to do was to implement a custom controller factory which uses the IoC container StructureMap to resolve dependencies and instantiate controllers. It didn’t take long until I was amazed with how simple it can be. StructureMap and MVC clearly makes a mean combo!

  3. EPiServer and MVC – Retrieving current page using a custom model binder

    Posted August 04 2009. 0 comments. In a previous post I described my first attempt at working with EPiServer and MVC along with Page Type Builder. In that I let all controllers inherit from a base class to retrieve the cuurrent PageData object. A much cleaner solution, which makes the controllers highly testable, is to let each action method have a currentPage parameter of type PageData (or in my case BasePageData). This is easily done by creating a custom model binder.

    Posted July 27 2009. 4 comments. Since I started this blog I haven’t been very happy with my choice of platform, BlogEngine.NET. So, last Friday I sent an email to EPiServer explaining an idea. I asked for licenses for CMS and Community and explained what I would use them for. I also promised to make all of the code for the blog open source/free, that way extending the “EPisphere” with another template package.

  6. Handling multiple ASP.NET configuration files with build events

    Posted July 15 2009. 3 comments. In the ASP.NET project that I’m currently working on most of the developers are using IIS 7 while a few is using IIS 5.1. This meant that we needed to have two separate web.config files. We wanted a solution to this that would be as simple as possible and came up with one using build events in Visual Studio and a Powershell script. The solution also works for other project types than ASP.NET of course.

  7. XML sitemap with ASP.NET

An XML sitemap is a great way to help crawlers such as Google, MSN Search, Yahoo and ASK.com to crawl your site and also allow you to tell them how important pages on your site are relative to each other. I created a ASP.NET handler that generates such an XML sitemap for this site, and of course you are welcome to download the source code (a Visual Studio 2008 project).

  8. Automatically notify Google and MSN when your site is updated

    Posted June 27 2009. 4 comments. I recently wrote about XML sitemaps and how to generate them with a ASP.NET handler. Once you have a XML sitemap you can let search engines such as Google and MSN know about it in three ways. Using two of the methods you can also notify Google and other search enginges of updates to your website. I've put together a small .NET class library for download which does the third alternative, that is, ping (notify) Google and MSN of updates to your website.

I've just switched from BlogEngine.NET to a custom built blog created with EPiServer Community, EPiServer CMS, ASP.NET MVC and a lot of other great frameworks and plug-ins. And of course this little creation is released as open source should anyone want to modify it and use it themselves or just look at it for inspiration.

  10. Twitter style paging with ASP.NET MVC and jQuery

    Posted October 20 2009. 6 comments. I really like the simplicity of the AJAX paging at Twitter so I decided to use the same type of paging on the start page on this site. It actually surprised me how simple it was to build it, including fallback for visitors that doesn’t have javascript enabled, with ASP.NET MVC and a few lines of javascript with jQuery.

  11. XML sitemap with ASP.NET MVC

    Posted October 21 2009. 4 comments. I have previously written about the benefits of, and how to create a XML sitemap with ASP.NET. That time I used a custom HTTP handler to generate the sitemap. As I was building this site using ASP.NET MVC I decided to seek another solution where the sitemap was generated by a controller. The solution turned out to be a custom ActionResult class, XmlSitemapResult.
